How the Style Hunt Ended

It wasnt until I emptied out my wardrobe that I found my style.

Well... not quite emptied it.

I didn't throw everything away or start from scratch. Instead, I analysed it. But let me rewind a little. For a while, I'd been trying to identify my style keywords. I'd taken countless quizzes, and while they were all helpful, none of them quite captured me. The problem was that my style didn't fit neatly into one category.

I'm drawn to a natural style—things that are a little sporty, a little boho, a little minimal (can you even be both?), a little classic and a little casual. So what does that make me? Eclectic? Is that even a definable fashion style? You can see my struggle.

I wrote down every style word that had come up in the quizzes, along with the ones I naturally associated with myself:

Natural

Minimal

Classic

Sporty

Edgy

Casual

Bohemian

Rugged

Rather than choosing the words that sounded most appealing, I decided to let my wardrobe decide.

I wrote each style word on a separate piece of paper before emptying my entire wardrobe. I know that sounds like a huge task, but trust me—it's worth it.

One by one, I sorted every item into the category it best fitted. It didn't take long before patterns began to emerge.

For example, although I'm practical, always on the go and wear trainers most days, I realised that I'm actually in jeans far more often. To me, that's more casual than sporty. No wonder I'd never fully connect with the word sporty. That category was the first to go.

Then there was boho. I don't wear a lot of pattern, but I do love rich colours like raspberry pink and tan. I'm drawn to textured fabrics, crochet details and natural fibres, and if I do wear a print, it's usually something with an earthy feel. I realised it wasn't really boho that I was drawn to—it was the grounded, organic feel behind it. Earthy feels like a much better fit.

I've always loved simplicity and good tailoring too. I don't enjoy clothing that feels sloppy or overly fussy. Clean lines and uncomplicated pieces make up the majority of my wardrobe, which is why minimalism still sits firmly at the heart of my style.

But as I continued sorting my clothes, I noticed something else.

Mixed in with the simple basics were little touches that gave my outfits personality. A leather jacket. Chunkier boots. Dark denim. Utility details. Strong accessories. Pieces that stopped my outfits from feeling too soft or predictable.

That's when I realised I'd been overlooking another important part of my style.

There's an edge to it.

Not in an all-black, biker kind of way, but enough to add contrast to the softer, earthy elements naturally gravitate towards. It's that balance that makes my wardrobe feel like me.

So can someone be minimal, earthy and a little edgy?

Absolutely.

Minimalism gives me the clean foundation I love. Earthy colours, natural fabrics and organic textures bring warmth, while those edgier pieces stop everything from feeling too polished or overly feminine.

In the end, my wardrobe spoke louder than any style quiz ever could.

The three words that genuinely describe both what I wear and how I want to dress are:

Minimal. Earthy. Edgy.

Seeing my wardrobe laid out in front of me made it obvious which styles formed my foundation and which ones simply played supporting roles.

For the first time, I feel completely settled in my style.

Now, whenever I'm tempted by something new, I can simply ask myself one question:

Does this fit my Minimal. Earthy. Edgy. aesthetic?

Because ultimately, that's what I think most of us are aiming for—a cohesive wardrobe that lets us get up, get dressed and get on with our day.

In a cohesive way, of course. 😉
